MSL’s 2024-2025 Academic Year Continues with an Engaging Second Day of Learning

Princess Anne, MD – November 2, 2024

The enthusiasm was palpable as MSL welcomed back 124 students for the second day of the 2024-2025 academic year on Saturday, November 2. Held at the Engineering Building of UMES in Princess Anne, Maryland, the day started promptly at 10:00 AM with students signing in and preparing for a diverse lineup of subjects.

The students, divided into two groups by grade levels—grades 1-6 and grades 7+—kicked off their learning rotations at 10:30 AM. The variety of subjects provided each student with a mix of academic and skill-based knowledge, covering essential areas such as math, science, computer science, and public speaking.

In the morning sessions, students in grades 1-6 explored foundational concepts across disciplines. In math, they dove into decimals, learning through engaging exercises that strengthened their numerical understanding. In science, they studied ecosystems, gaining insights into the delicate balance within natural environments. In computer science, students were introduced to expert systems, exploring how these tools mimic human decision-making and opening their minds to the potentials of artificial intelligence. Public speaking emphasized audience awareness, helping students understand how to tailor their messages to engage listeners effectively.

Students in grades 7+ tackled algebra basics in math, building a foundation for future problem-solving skills. Their science session featured Tinkercad, a powerful tool that allowed students to design digital circuits on their screens, translating their creativity into real-world technology applications. Like the younger students, the older group studied expert systems in computer science and worked on audience awareness in public speaking.

At 12:40 PM, students gathered for lunch, providing a well-deserved break to recharge and connect with peers. The afternoon resumed with a rotation of the same subjects, allowing each group to experience the full breadth of MSL’s curriculum.

MSL’s curriculum this year aims to develop well-rounded, skilled individuals who are ready for future careers in STEM and beyond. This dedication is supported by a team of knowledgeable instructors and tutors who are committed to fostering students’ academic and personal growth.

With each passing day, MSL continues to empower youth with essential skills for the future, from mathematics and digital creativity to effective communication and responsible AI use.
